Yearnings

In me, many generations imprisoned,
An inheritance that no one really meant,
No one wanted, anyone wished, no one cared,
When nothing is broken, nothing repaired,
Generations of pogroms, carnage, annihilation,
Not just of my own – but the all nation,
All I ever wanted was a wholesome family,
One to call my own, it was the time to be,
A generation after the holocaust – a statement,
Defiance, we are here to stay, full reinstatement,
Bigger and better – here we are in your eye,
Around the holiday table we are no eye is dry,
Alas, another generation will have to wait,
For when there is no love then hate,
